In both the US, and the UK, businesses have been hoarding cash, building useless war chests, most of which they will never use. It’s largely a reaction to the pandemic that hasn’t changed despite our emergence from the crisis.

The best indicator of this, the velocity of money, has slowed drastically in both countries. The chart above shows just how money velocity has braked to a halt in the US. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, in Q4 2021, money velocity was at 1.123; compare this with the Great Financial Crisis of 2007-2009 when money velocity was at 1.712.......
